MALE PATTERN BALDNESS
What Is Male Pattern Baldness?
Male pattern baldness, male androgenic alopecia, and hereditary alopecia are all terms used to describe hereditary hair loss tendencies in men. Male pattern baldness is the most common form of balding in men that doesn’t result in scarring. Male pattern baldness is caused by genetic factors and typically affects the top of the head.
Can Male Baldness be due to other causes?
Yes, there are other types of hair loss that may be caused by an untreated health problem, medication, or other issues. In most cases, these types of hair loss are temporary and reversible once the underlying problem has been dealt with.
What types of treatments are available for Male Pattern Baldness?
At Keller Plastic Surgery, we have had extreme success with ACell + PRP injection therapy, platelet-rich plasma injection treatment, to preserve and thicken hair in patients who are genetically predisposed to male pattern baldness. The ACell + PRP injection procedure is a short non-surgical procedure performed in about 30 minutes and requiring very limited down time. ACell + PRP therapy proves convenient for patients because it does not require daily maintenance, unlike prescription medications or topical applications that must be used daily.
How Does ACell + PRP Therapy treat Male Pattern Baldness?
First, a blood sample is obtained in order to produce the platelet-rich plasma used in PRP therapy. We then administer a local anesthetic and optional sedation to completely numb the treatment area ensuring the patient’s total comfort during the procedure. The ACell and PRP are combined and injected directly into the scalp, either over the entire scalp or in a localized treatment area such as the eyebrows or beard.
